SPC Zigzag Barkia Installation

Description

SPC barkia laid in a zigzag herringbone pattern, cut and angled on site.

This is a laying pattern rather than a different product. The same SPC barkia planks are set at opposing angles so they interlock in a zigzag, which reads as a much more finished floor than a straight run of the identical material.

It is a slower installation. Every plank at the perimeter has to be cut to an angle, the pattern has to be set out from a centre line before anything is fixed, and there is more offcut waste than a straight lay, so both the labour and the material allowance are higher.

The trade-off is that it holds up in large open rooms where a straight lay starts to look flat, and it disguises a room that is slightly out of square better than parallel planks do.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the zigzag pattern cost more than a straight lay?

+

Yes. Every perimeter plank is angle cut and there is more waste, so both the labour and the material allowance are higher than a straight run of the same barkia.

Is the material different from normal SPC barkia?

+

No. It is the same plank, set at opposing angles. The difference is entirely in how it is laid.

Where does the pattern work best?

+

In larger or open-plan rooms, where a straight lay tends to look flat. It also disguises a room that is slightly out of square.
