Description

Decorative interior wall panelling — slatted, fluted and upholstered feature walls.

Panelling changes a wall's texture rather than just its colour. Vertical slats and fluted profiles catch light down their length and throw fine shadow lines, so the surface reads differently through the day in a way paint or wallpaper never does.

It is most often used on one wall — behind a TV, behind the head of a bed, or along the run a majlis faces. Panelling every wall in a room usually overwhelms it, and we will say so before quoting.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I panel the whole room?

+

Rarely. Panelling works by contrast — one textured wall against three plain ones. Wrap a room in it and the effect cancels out and the space closes in. A single feature wall is almost always the stronger result.

What is the difference between slatted and fluted panelling?

+

Slatted uses separate battens with a visible gap between them, usually over a dark backing, which gives a strong striped rhythm. Fluted is a continuous surface with rounded grooves, so the effect is softer and more subtle.

Does panelling help with sound?

+

Slatted panelling over an acoustic backing does take the edge off echo in a hard-surfaced room. It is not soundproofing, but in a majlis with tiled floors and bare walls the difference in liveliness is noticeable.
